Industrial Photographer

Industrial location photography. This thirty-ton valve shot at Raynor Corporation became one of my favorite industrial images, and one of my favorite stories. Sadly while we were preparing to photograph it an engineer had accidentally fallen from it and was injured with a head injury and many broken arm bones. Later after I completed this photo the valve was hoisted for some vertical views, One chain snapped and it swung literally within inches of my assistant and myself. Tough day! Since then we never take anything for granted concerning safety issues.. 4x5 ektachrome original.

Location photography. Heavy turbine machinery, large-scale product photographed on busy factory floor, shop background later removed and new background created in Photoshop to enhance the presentation of the products. The real key here is getting great accent lighting on the very large scale product at the time exposure, all the post production in the world will not give the same result.

This company makes extremely large particle beam accelerators. Shot on factory floor. Shop background removed and new background added in photoshop. The key here once again is getting great lighting on the unit properly at exposure. Digital capture.

Industrial location photography. Client had this initial prototype pump hand finished and painted with custom automobile paint. I lit it much like I would light an automobile. 4x5 ektachrome original.

Location photography, industrial. Laser cutter for a large sheet metal company, I had the operator adjust the machine feed rate to make a visible flame. At normal operating speeds the laser beam is invisible.

My client had just installed two new machines and was anxious for photos to show their new capability. They are the largest horizontal milling machines in the country. Every inch of both, completely controlled by my lighting. Most photographers wouldn't even attempt to light shots on this scale. I live for it! The machine manufacturer later purchased usage rights for their advertising purposes. The domes in this photo are fuel tanks for the space shuttle. Look at the size of the people in this shot and you will begin to appreciate the scale. 4x5 ektachrome original.

Location photography, industrial. This client makes extremely large filtration systems for the heavy equipment industry. We photographed many on this scale for them, on their shop floor. Later silhouetted and polished in photoshop.

Industrial location photography, Same manufacturer wanted to feature this first of its kind automatic sheetmetal handling machine in the identity piece we were producing. Amada the manufacturer of the system also later used them. Every inch of this shot is strobed out, took about a day.

Industrial location photography, I've done hundreds of machine views like this, I try to focus on the technology and keep the lighting dramatic, otherwise you loose the audience.

Industrial location photography. Facility/ capability view for this heavy industry manufacturer. This fellow is machining a casting that is about the size of a Volkswagen. The big stuff goes on a much larger machine! 4x5 ektachrome original.

Large product on site for heavy equipment manufacturer, this was the last of many views that day, As my assistant reminds me constantly it went on film at 1:30 am.

I've shot a lot of obscure, custom application devices like this one for many manufacturers. This was photographed just inside their shipping door.

Industrial Location photography. This Company does things in a big way, the father and son CEO and President added nice scale to the shot. They produce pumps for the nuclear and energy industries. Shot on the factory floor. Later in PhotoShop silhouetted and new background added.. 4x5

The following series are from a large shoot for Schneider Electrics HR department for a series of recruiting ads. We took over 1400 images in a two day period for about 24 separate ads and posters. All talent photographed high key and silhouetted, various backgrounds were later added in post production.
